The NY Phil celebrates György Ligeti’s centennial with concerts and events throughout the fall. Ligeti's life unfolded against the tumultuous backdrop of 20th-century Europe, experiencing firsthand the horrors of the Holocaust and the oppressive shadows of communist rule. Yet, from the darkest chapters of history emerged a composer with a unique musical language reliant on his irrepressible playfulness, sharp wit, and insatiable curiosity for exploring musical traditions from around the world.

Watch Now: Conductor David Robertson shares his wealth of knowledge about Ligeti and looks at the composer's Mifiso la sodo and Concert Românesc.
