Designed for pre-professional musicians, our Youth Mentorship Program sparks excitement while developing musicianship and ensemble-playing skills. Through two-hour workshops — either with or without instruments — young music-makers work with New York Philharmonic musicians and our network of music professionals to develop specific areas of technique, performance, and interpretation.

Ensembles engaged with the Youth Mentorship Program receive support in areas including:

  • Learning and performing a wide range of repertoire through a variety of approaches
  • An understanding of professional practices surrounding rehearsal and performance
  • Insights into maintaining a positive attitude at each stage of music-making, from individual practice to ensemble rehearsals and performance
  • Sustainable strategies for school music directors to activate the young musicians in their classrooms
