New York Philharmonic Holiday Gifts 2013

Posted December 04, 2013

Here are some good things to get your loved ones this Holiday Season.

YPC Vol 2

DVD: Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts Volume 2
Kultur International Films released Volume 2 of the New York Philharmonic’s Young People’s Concerts with Leonard Bernstein on November 19, 2013, featuring 27 digitally restored videos of the landmark televised concerts on nine DVDs. This is the first release of Young People’s Concerts in more than 20 years, following the popular release of Volume 1 in 1993; with this release the entire series of Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts is now available on DVD.

The 27 concerts in this nine-disc set took place between 1960–72 and cover a broad range of musical topics and composers including the music of Copland, Ives, Bach, Liszt, Strauss, and many others. Bernstein also used the Young People’s Concerts as a platform to introduce exciting new performers to the musical world; the nine Young Performers programs included in this new set feature appearances by a young André Watts, Paula Robison, and Lynn Harrell, among others.

The album, which was hailed as one of the best classical music recordings of 2012 by The New York Times, was ranked on the Classical Billboard charts in its first week of release.
