Irene Breslaw
The Norma and Lloyd Chazen Chair

Assistant Principal Chair

The Norma and Lloyd Chazen Chair
Norma Chazen was a member of the Philharmonic's Heritage Society. She and Mr. Chazen always loved music, and Mrs. Chazen wanted to have their names associated with the artistry of the Philharmonic to demonstrate their love of the Orchestra. Through a bequest in her will Mrs. Chazen endowed The Norma and Lloyd Chazen Chair.

Irene Breslaw, who currently holds the Assistant Principal Viola chair, joined the viola section of the New York Philharmonic in 1976 and was named Assistant Principal Viola in 1989. Mrs. Breslaw is thrilled and deeply honored to hold The Norma and Lloyd Chazen Chair and expressed her gratitude to Norma's family at a recent Heritage Society Day.

Shirley and Jon Brodsky with Qiang Tu at Avery Fisher Hall

The Shirley and Jon Brodsky Foundation Chair
Shirley Brodsky's interest in music and the arts runs deep as did that of her late husband, Jon. A lifelong amateur cellist, Mr. Brodsky loved watching the Philharmonic's cello section during concerts — so it was natural that when the couple wanted to make a gift to the Philharmonic, it would have something to do with the cello.

Shirley and Jon Brodsky, through The Brodsky Family Foundation, endowed the chair of cellist Qiang Tu. Mr. Tu, who joined the Orchestra in 1995, expressed delight and gratitude, saying: "It makes me feel that people really care about the Orchestra and that the audience is a part of the Philharmonic family."
